  • 1) Snooze your Smartphone

Checking your smartphone, the moment you wake up is not a great habit. Your messages and your work emails can wait. When you check your phone right after waking up, you cultivate a reactive mindset instead of a proactive one.

This causes you to start your day in a defensive state instead of a place of inner peace and control. Try not to use technology within the first hour of the day. Try to start your day with a positive focus and with present-moment awareness.

    2) Make your bed

Making your bed might seem like a chore but it is actually a deceptively simple task.

There are many benefits to doing it. Firstly, it helps in decluttering not only your physical space but also your mind. It enables good hygiene and positively affects your psychology as well.

Navy Admiral William H. McRaven once said, “If you make your bed every morning, you will have accomplished the first task of the day. It will give you a small sense of pride, and it will encourage you to do another task and another and another. And by the end of the day, that one task completed will have turned into many tasks completed.”

Accomplishing that first task can give you a sense of euphoria which is great for the rest of the day. When you have a made bed you will find it easier to keep the rest of the room clean which is great for your mental health. Once you start this habit, in a few weeks you will begin to wonder if you make the bed or does the bed makes you!

    3) Have lemon water instead of coffee

Ditch the coffee in the morning and go for lemon water. A fresh-squeezed lemon has a myriad of benefits. It jumpstarts your metabolism and burns fat while sustaining muscle.

It also cleanses your mouth and throat giving you a boost of energy. After drinking it, wait 30 minutes before brushing your teeth. It’s a lot to ask from caffeine addicts however if you can manage, the results are great.

    4) Have a get-ready routine

Having a great to-do list in the morning helps speed up the process and keep you focused. We tend to have a series of tasks we do every morning; however, they are not always in the same order. This can give a sense of disarray or confusion making the rest of your day sluggish.

Completing your morning regimen in the proper order will help you save time and feel more in control. It will give you a sense of confidence which will result in a positive disposition throughout the day. All micro-decisions add up and the more efficient you become at completing them the better.

    5) Meditate

A mindfulness practice like meditation is a great way to start your day. Such tasks will help you ground and train your mind and emotions. This will influence how you reflect and react to challenges throughout the day.

Try to set the intention for the day through the meditation process. You can get a clear understanding of how you want your day to go and what you wish to accomplish. Having clear objectives to focus on enhances the positive nature of your psyche making your days a success.

    6) Start with self-care

Boost your confidence by putting time and effort into your appearance. Exercise proper hygiene and do things that make you feel happy about your appearance.

You may even try picking out the clothes you wish to wear the night before to give you extra enthusiasm for the day ahead. Anything which helps you feel like you’re taking care of your health and making yourself look your best will in turn build confidence and a positive mindset.

    7) Make a To-Do list

You could be one of those people who doesn’t do any work-related stuff early in the morning. However, it can be helpful if you strategize and get tasks in order before you get distracted by the oncoming day.

When you take time to write out your game plan you are already miles ahead in making the right decisions based on your mood.

In the book “Essentialism” by Greg Mckeown, he mentions, “When we don’t purposely and deliberately choose where to focus our energies and time, other people—our bosses, our colleagues, our clients, and even our families—will choose for us, and before long we’ll have lost sight of everything meaningful and important.”

    8) Stretch

Stretching or doing some yoga early in the morning keeps your body in shape and gets your mind and body ready. You can do some basic stretching which will loosen up your muscles in the morning.

Stretching not only helps muscles but also will help you feel good about your habits. When you put in the time to get ready each morning, it will show in the positive nature you will have throughout the day.

    Conclusion:

The energy that comes with starting the day on a positive note can sustain you throughout the day. Slow sluggish mornings are something everyone faces but it is up to us to change it by doing what we can to put some pep into our step. Something as trivial as listening to your favorite song in the car has a huge impact on your mood throughout the day.
